Audio Production Summer Masterclass 2024
June 24th-28th | 10am - 1pm
For rising 9th-12th graders, this week-long masterclass teaches the tools and techniques professionals use to record, edit and mix high-quality audio! Participants will learn using professional-grade equipment & industry-standard software in our studio at Gold City House of Music.

WORKSHOPS INCLUDE:
- Setting Up Recording Hardware (Audio Interface)
- Introduction to Pro Tools (Industry-Standard Software)
- Recording with Virtual Instruments and MIDI
- Capturing Quality Audio: Mic Placement, Acoustics, Gain Staging
- Preparing to Mix: Editing Audio, Session Routing, Organization
- Mixing: Balance, EQ, Compression, Stereo Imaging, Effects
- Mastering: Tonal Balance, Volume, Formatting and File Types

Instructor
Tyler Davis is a musician, producer and instructor with over fifteen years of professional experience in the music industry. He received a BA in Film Studies from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 2014, and completed an MFA in Studio Art at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2017 with a focus in video and photographic arts.
​
He began performing professionally as a singer-songwriter at the age of 17, and has been playing shows up and down the east coast ever since - both in bands and as a solo performer. He has released two albums that he recorded, mixed and mastered, with a third live album set for release in May 2024. Tyler has been co-owner and instructor at Gold City House of Music since it opened in 2021, where he has engineered, produced and mixed for clients spanning a variety of genres, including hip-hop, country, pop, rock, soul and r&b.

He began teaching workshops in audio and video production in 2015 while enrolled at the San Francisco Art Institute, and began teaching guitar, bass, drums and music theory in 2019. He has worked with adults, teenagers and elementary age students, and taught a guitar course in the Wayne Community College Music Department in 2022. In 2024, he became a member of the advisory committee for Wayne Community College's Entertainment Technology Program.
Class Requirements:
- Students must be rising 9th-12th graders for the upcoming academic year.

- Students must have an audio interface, a midi keyboard, and a set of headphones*
​
- Students must have access to a laptop computer with the following specs:

- Students must have a USB Flash Drive or other external storage device (Hard Drive, SSD) for storing project files and other digital materials,

- Students must have transportation to and from Gold City House of Music for the duration of the program.

* We offer a package that includes both an audio interface and a midi keyboard that students will be able to keep at the conclusion of the program
